PRESCRIBING INFORMATION

MECHANISM OF ACTION fortrans®solution is an ISO-OSMOTIC solution. Upon administration, fortrans® will be retained in the large intestine, this will results in diarrhoea and cleansing of the colon.

The electrolyte content of the preparation is such that the reconstituted solution results in no intestine/plasma electrolyte exchange. Macrogol 4000 is not absorbed.

PRESENTATION AND FORM Powder for oral solution. Box of 4 or 50 sachets.

For a sachet of 74g:

Macrogol 4000
Potassium chloride
Anhydrous sodium sulphate
Saccharin sodium
Sodium bicarbonate
Passion fruit artificial flavour
Sodium chloride

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION 2-3 sachets of fortrans® are required for each bowel preparation.(fortrans® has a pleasant passion-fruit flavour. Patient may also find fortrans® solution more palatable if chilled in refrigerator)

The day before morning procedure

6pm - 7pm Dissolve 1 sachet of fortrans® into 1 liter of drinking water.
Consume glassful by glassful within 1 hour.
(Bowel evacuation will begin within 1-2 hours after consuming fortrans® solutions)
7pm - 8pm Dissolve 1 sachet of fortrans® into 1 liter of drinking water.
Consume glassful by glassful within 1 hour.
8pm - 9pm Dissolve 1 sachet of fortrans® into 1 liter of drinking water.
Consume glassful by glassful within 1 hour.

If procedure is scheduled for the afternoon, fortrans® should be given on the same day.

Ingestion of fortrans® solution must be completed at least 3 hours before procedure.
